How We Think - Research
THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION
SCIENTIFIC SOCIETY RESEARCH
THE OBJECTIVE
The Alzheimer's Association's aggressive and multi-dimensional
educational, communication and public policy programs reach more people
today than ever before. In the interest of offering more targeted
information to the scientific community, the Association sought to
gather opinions about the feasibility of creating a new venue in which
those involved in Alzheimer's disease research and education around the
globe can share information and ideas. The Rodgers Group was selected to
design, implement and analyze this research based, in part, on previous
work done on the Association's behalf.
IMPLEMENTING THE PROGRAM
The survey was designed in an electronic format for maximum ease-of-use
and efficiency. Potential research participants each received a brief
request for assistance via e-mail, with a link to the survey. Those who
participated reported spending just 5-8 minutes clicking through their
responses; with the touch of a key, the survey was transmitted directly
to a Rodgers Group database specifically designed to facilitate the
analysis. Positive response from a small test group allowed for minor
adjustments before the final survey was distributed among a
representative sample selected by the Association.
RESULTS
Participants came from all over the globe from a variety of scientific
communities and organizations. Feedback on how they currently receive
information, how they prefer to receive information, the degree to which
they would participate in a future society and more provided the
Alzheimer's Association with important input as they design the new
scientific society. Both print and electronic communication are
important to this audience as is timely distribution of pertinent
research and information about Alzheimer's disease and related
disorders. The entire survey process was completed online and the
results were made available to the Alzheimer's Association both through
an online database and in printed support materials.
